clueless managers
OK OK I get it – fair enough, you have to have sympathy for the new manager. That is, someone who is totally new to band management. It’s very much a learning-as-you-go sort of job. If you’re in America, however, the best way to get advice isn’t through a UK promoter you’ve never spoken to in your life, whilst simultaneously putting them off ever wanting to book your band by
1) offering up a band playing a style of music the promoter would be unlikely to put on anyway.
2) pricing them out of the market (the hip, trendy and totally fabbo we-rocked-SXSW buzz bands from America Land will quite often play a string of London shows for a £50 guarantee a pop).
3) NOT SENDING ANY MUSIC OR INDEED A LINK TO ANY MUSIC OR ANY INFORMATION OTHER THAN THEY ARE ‘DOING OK IN TEXAS’.
Such as this.
I am trying to help a Texas band that I know get some gigs in the UK. They are a very good Rockabilly Bluesy band with a great look and sound and are looking to visit and play in the UK for a week or two.
Obviously considering the cost of the trip, they’d be looking for more than just a couple of hundred £ a gig.
They have a good name in Texas and do regular gigs, they are currently funding the production of an album, and I do have access to one or two of their songs that I could forward to anyone who might be interested.
As you might guess, this industry is new to me and so your help and guidance would be appreciated.
